Estuary: A Confluence of Art & Poetry
Published by Moon and Mountain, 2012
Art Editor: Harriette Lawler

“An estuary is that part of the mouth or lower course of a river in which the river’s current meets the sea’s tide. An abundance of nutrient-rich food is found in this biome. Estuarine environments are among the most productive on earth, creating habitats for 1000s of species to live, feed, and reproduce. 26 artists and 57 poets from around the world have come together in this 120 page, full color book to create an estuary of images and words, art and poetry flowing together.”

Camera Obscura Gallery - "The Art of Photography Today 2"
My Art will be exhibited in an upcoming show in Denver, Colorado at the World's oldest photography gallery. I have had three works chosen to be shown at the prestigious, 'Camera Obscura Gallery.' Exhibition dates are from December 10, 2010 through February 5, 2011. Jurors were Hal Gould and Loretta Young-Gautier. My works chosen were from the categories, Abstract/Experimental," and "People." The exhibition's Public and Artists' Reception is Friday, December 10, 2010 - from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Camera Obscura Gallery can be found at 1309 Bannock Street, Denver Colorado 80204 - just across the street from the Denver Art Museum (next to the Colorado State Capital Grounds). ph. # 303.623.4059
There were 231 photographers from six countries, entering 923 images in four categories: Abstract & Experimental, Landscape & Nature, People, and Urban & Architecture. The art of photography has seen tremendous change in the last few decades. The increasing presence of digital imaging has added new dimension to creative exploration and technical excellence. The jurors, Hal Gould and Loretta Young-Gautier, selected 96 photographs, by 81 artists, from 11 different US states - to represent this diverse variety of technique and style. The exhibition selection includes black & white and color images using both experimental and traditional photographic methodology, including three-dimensional compositions.
The Camera Obscura Gallery presented cash awards and certificates of merit at the opening reception on December 10, Brad was awarded a cash prize for one of his works.

Dear Friends,
Begun in the late summer of 2010, these paintings are being done for Sara Eyestone, the art curator of The La Posada Hotel in Santa Fe, NM.

(The June Show) / "Feeling Soulful"
Seasons change so fast - it is hard sometimes to keep up. But, just as the seasons change - so are the inclinations of our art to vary. So, our, ‘June Show,’ shall be about transitions! Submit a work, which, for you, there was a ‘soul change’ brought on the seasons changing, or the coming of a new year - where we sometimes become compelled to present new aspects of our nature into our art! What new enthusiasm have you found in fresh work? Our site is all about up-to-the-minute work - seeking it, expressing it, and sharing it before we may go forward towards something even newer, or more refined! Let's take our pulse, and see how we are shining presently! Entries are being accepted as soon as possible - and throughout May and June. Feel free to ask questions, and you can still enter work into our past two shows if you have failed to do so and would care to now… - Brad Michael Moore (bmm@artbrainstorming.com)

The May Night Maidens
Murderous intentions in the darkness by river’s edge, the May Night Maidens seek vengeance. Spurned by their lovers, they died violently or committed suicide by plunging into the river to drown their sorrow.
Call them what you will, water ghosts, water spirits, succubus, mermaid demons, nymphs or sprites, by day these sisters of the river dwell at the bottom of the river and walk the banks by moonlight. Upon seeing handsome young men, they fascinate them with songs and dancing in the meadows, mesmerizing them and leading their doomed lovers away to the river bottom to live with them forever.
But is it loneliness or vengeance that drives these women who were once so beautiful and innocent?
In her latest series, “The May Night Maidens”, artist Carla Goldberg continues her use of the fluidity of line which she is known for. Her body or work travels in a sister path to rivers and other flowing waters which she began in “Soundings” and “Bodice of the Goddess” which focused mainly on the Hudson River and the lore of female river spirits.
“The May Night Maidens” goes further afield and explores Russian myth and the darker realm of the tragic and violent female spirits called the “Rusalki” or Drowned Maidens which haunt the rivers throughout the world and across all cultures.
Inspired by the writings of Pushkin and Gogol about the Drowned Maidens which closely echo her own method of creating myth from local landscapes, Carla Goldberg has found that resin lets her capture a three dimensional snapshot of the essence of flowing water in what has been described as a “liquid rhythm which flows and coils through her imagery”. Through this, we get a glimpse of the last thing many an unwary traveler would see on a moonlit night.

The work shown ranges from painting and sculpture to multimedia work. bau has been a major presence in the Beacon, NY art scene for over 5 years having played a major role in the continued transformation and renaissance of Beacon into a destination for art seekers and a place where art is made. bau is familiar to many New Yorkers who have traveled north to see the Dia collection and then ventured into the town of Beacon. Artist run and organized, bau regularly shows cutting edge art that entertains, awes and sometimes enrages viewers. bau now brings its esthetic to New York City. The members regularly show elsewhere nationally and internationally in galleries, universities and museums, and in public spaces and corporate and private collections.

Anyone have art news pertaining to yourself, and/or other members of ArtBrainStorming? Send me your notices and press releases, and I will post them here - if they are reasonable and detailed enough. I might consider small images - one per notice, but it will be resized to allow the page to build quickly. After the news page becomes cumbersome (too long) I will begin dropping off the oldest entries at the end. Newest submissions will always begin on top and descend by age.

"100 Artists 100 Dreams" - juried international exhibition at La Leona Arts in Kingston, NY opening in October 2011. Curated by NY painter Sadee Brathwaite. Explores the concept of artists as visionaries and keepers of the creative fires. The project consists of a film, an exhibit, and an art installation. Visual artists (including our Harriette Lawler), performers and musicians discuss one of three dream types: recurring dreams, prophetic dreams or dreams that have impacted them creatively.

The most recent Micra Art Group book project, "Planet Earth, Planet Art," has works from three ABS members I know of - that being, Bianka Guna, Harriette Lawler, and Carla Goldberg. See link: [ http://www.blurb.com/my/book/detail/1177112 ]. "Planet Earth" goes on sale March 1, 2010, and may also be previewed at that time. Harriette says she is on pages 70-71, and Bianka's are on pages 34-35. The works from artists around the globe are featured within the book's 208 pages said to be, "inspiring, and come together for a truly beautiful and elegant book."
PLANET EARTH PLANET ART
On the 1st March, Mirca Art Group releases its second major art book, Planet Earth Planet Art, in support of the environmental and social grassroots network, ‘Friends Of The Earth International.’ Ninety-five artists present their artwork as a voice raised to bring awareness of the urgent problems of the imbalanced lifestyles and unsustainable environmental consumption we humans face, accompanied by a personal statement which brings the clarity of the artist to these problems. These artists come from such nations as the UK, USA, Saudi Arabia, Hungary, China, Brazil, Greece, Libya, India, France, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden (and many others), and thus this book is truly a global voice, with contributions from East and West, from the developed and developing worlds.
This coffee-table formatted book, and it’s collection of contemporary art forms ranges from the abstract to the photographic, the visionary to the spectacular, and is prefaced by a wonderful poem entitled Make Art, Not War from Nnimmo Bassey, the Chair of Friends Of The Earth International. Cover design is from Indian graphic artist Narasimha Gollapudi Murthy, and edited as collaboration between Mirca Art Group and British visionary artist Bruce Rimell. This book is a must-have for any art lovers wishing to experience the insights of artists addressing the greatest issue that mankind faces today: the protection and sustainability of our Planet Earth and the biodiversity that dwells upon it.
Planet Earth Planet Art is available in three formats, all in 10x8in (25x20cm) landscape: Softcover, Hardcover with Dust Jacket and Hardcover with Image Wraparound, from quality book publisher blurb.com.

The topic will be open to 'anything' you find important at this point in your life. It could be a concern over a local, national, or universal issue, or, it could be about family, or sanity, or hope for future outcomes before you. In other words, the next open will allow you to express yourself over what is a main consideration for you. Your statement can explain the rest to us. Statements are limited to about 125 words. While only one entry is permitted - it can contain several images - they must be presented as one related group shot though. Two or 3 vertical works could then be presented as a horizontal presentation.
As with all of our Electronic Exhibitions, I will post works as soon as they come to me. Also, I keep older shows open for members who did not enter works originally, but find something later that fits. We are all about art here, and less about deadlines. I understand some member duos also have done Diptychs that are not in the pages - and I will always be happy to add more works. That goes for, "Dichotomies," as well!
Several members have asked if they can bring a new member into the group - I will accept a new member from each current member until we reach the limit of 50. More than 50, and I risk making the same mistake made by the current #artmesh operator - biting off more than I can chew. 50 is a good number!

"ABS Member-Only" Call for Entries
Dichotomy - division into two mutually exclusive, opposed, or contradictory groups: a dichotomy between thought and action.
For our first show, we did diptychs - which created an opportunity to consider similarity, harmony, and unison partnership as our topic. In this Call, I am asked participants to consider dissimilarity, opposition, push & pull as our consideration.
This will be a solo effort and entry for all members who have and wish to create a work that will ascribe to our theme - dichotomy. You can present your work as one or multiple pieces - as long as they are all part of one overall work.
Deadline is March 31st. Please photograph your finished work and send me your entry as a .jpeg - which I will size and prepare for the web site.
Every time we add more new content - new works by you - the searchable database on the Internet created more articles for you - so I hope we will have a large number of our group participate.
You can email me your work and a statement (if you wish) to BMM at BradMichaelMoore.com Please, if you have any questions - use the email interface here for those - however, attachments must go to the listed email address. Thanks, and good luck! - Brad Michael Moore
(*) I hope I didn't miss anyone - talk amongst yourselves - some of our members have no public email address I can find, and most of those folks I used the #am Email Interface. Still, I may have missed someone - hope not.
