"Bloody Hero" © 2010 Frank Ettenberg 'Bloody Hero' was painted at a rather promising moment, when a very warm spring spring had come to Upper Austria where I was living. I was going through a kind of exile, living in a strange place, during a time of separation. I was feeling the joy of being outdoors and in the sun's embrace, while, at the same time, feeling inner conflict and pain. So these contrasting experiences were put into the same arena; were allowed to exist with split built in. Nevertheless there is obviously a unity here. - F.E
