© by Bianka, Guna "FUGLY " is vulgar slang meaning very ugly, extremely unattractive, used to describe someone when they are more than just ugly, usually in a derogatory way, on chat groups on internet, in schools, gymnasiums and high-schools. For some sensitive kids, teens, especially girls, this kind of address becomes stressful and may induce a low self-esteem. We cannot underestimate just how vital the words and actions of parents are in fostering positive self-esteem in girls. However, it can be challenging because adolescence is not typically a time when girls are reaching out to their parents and speaking candidly. So parents have to show encouragement, honesty and openness to help kids (girls) gain confidence and reach their full potential. The strange dichotomy is that young girls are so precious and beautiful, yet they think themselves to be ugly and unworthy. Sometimes kids have a very distorted image of themselves, we have to help them realize they are beautiful. We all have to start building confidence in our kids, in their ability to think and in their ability to cope with the basic challenges in life. "FUGLY 111" (Diptych), 48"x 90", Acrylic on Canvas
